Sticking to a fitness routine is tough, especially when you have to juggle your workouts with your other responsibilities. And yet, it might not be as difficult as you think it is. If you’ve been slacking in your workout routine, here are some tips to get you back on track.

Push Yourself

First of all, you need to be brutally honest with yourself. Assuming that you have some free time, you can find the time to work on your fitness goals. This means making yourself go out and exercise even when you don’t want to or think that you can’t. If you must, write down some of the reasons why you want to work out, and think about what might happen if you don’t stick to your usual routine. Aside from that, you just need to force yourself into a regular workout routine. It will be tough at first, but only at first. Before long, it will be a part of your regular routine.

Start Small

If you don’t think you can handle a grueling workout that pushes you beyond the point of exhaustion, start small instead. If you can only handle 15 minutes a day, do that. Before long, those 15 minutes will feel very short, and you’ll be ready to exercise for 30 minutes. After that, you can push it up to 60 minutes. The key is to push yourself gradually and never do more than you think you can.

Ease Into Your Workout

If you’ve taken some time off from your regular exercise routine, you won’t be able to do what you once did. You’ll only hurt yourself if you try to pick up where you left off months or years ago. Try to do fewer reps than you did before, lift lighter weights, and try not to run as fast or as far as you once did. Don’t worry about not getting to where you once were, either. As long as you keep working, you will get there. Depending on your overall health, you might even be able to take things further than before.
